TIP
OF THE MONTH
Why Antibacterials?
• Salmonella
can survive freezing and can survive on dry surfaces for at least
24 hours.
• The average kitchen dishcloth can contain 4 billion
living germs
• Some germs can live on dry surfaces, such as toys,
for several hours and moist surfaces, like kitchen sinks, for up
to three days.
Why
use antibacterials? Regular cleaning products do a good
job of removing soil, but antibacterial cleaners kill the germs
that can cause many illnesses.
So
what's the main difference between plain soaps and antibacterial
soaps?
The
main difference is that antibacterial soaps contain a special ingredient
for controlling germs. When washing with an antibacterial soap,
a very small amount of antibacterial ingredient is deposited on
the skin that keeps the number of germs at a significantly reduced
level for an extended period of time. Washing with plain soap initially
removes some germs, but the germs left on the hands can quickly
regrow and increase in number.
TIPS
1. Look for the words "disinfectant," "antibacterial"
or "sanitize" on the label.
2. Wash your hands with antibacterial soap! Use warm water, wash
hands for at least 15 seconds, (not under the water, that rinses
the soap off) and dry with clean towel!
