Welcome Home
This project developed when a couple bought a home for both them and their elderly parents, that needed an update to suit both families. While the parents had their own living quarters the kitchen would serve as a "shared" kitchen. So making their kitchen extremely functional while aesthetically pleasing, became a top priority. Their existing kitchen, which included muted light purple cabinetry, black appliances & semi-gloss field tiles with uncoordinated liners, was a perfect fit for a refresh!
Goals:
• Full use of the cooking appliances
• Maximum functionality for both the owners & the aging parents
• Create a Beautiful gathering place for all members of the family
How We Accomplished their goals!
Functionally:
• A microwave oven combo replaced the traditional double oven
• Added warming drawer beneath oven
• A base cabinet near the sink was modified to accept a trash bin
• Converted electric downdraft to a gas cooktop
• Eliminated an existing wall cabinet & reused the salvaged material to create additional base storage cabinets
Aesthetically:
• Cabinets finished in Creamy paint, while island & hutch were pewterglazed to create furniture-look
• Created a built-in look by adding end panels, flanking the refrigerator & created flush refrigerator casing
• To create a more natural look, used natural stone tiles set in a pattern and interspersed with antique nickel metal tiles to accent the finish of the appliances & cabinet hardware
• Kept existing undercabinet task lighting
• Replaced existing tray ceiling with fluorescent diffusers with new ornate track light and added recessed ceiling cans around the perimeter.
• Floors replaced with darker wood floor to tie into granite tops.
