Traditional to Soft Contemporary
After purchasing a traditional
styled home, this family was excited to transform the
interior of their new Addison home into something
that reflected their own style, "Soft Contemporary." Bold
Color was something they were not afraid to incorporate into
the heart of the home, the kitchen. What
an impact it made!
The original kitchen was bland, choppy and
not designed with flow or function in mind. The
design was critical to meeting their needs. Therefore the
refrigerator wall was moved back, opening up the space,
allowing for a functional island and the addition
of a butlers pantry.
But the finishes are what really commands all the
attention. Dramatic dark gray cabinets are
surrounded by pale blue walls, stainless steel appliances
and attention-grabbing granite. The show-stopper of
the kitchen is the custom designed art glass backsplash that
frames the cooktop. It is a true masterpiece,
and not at all what you would expect to see in most traditional homes.

Plastic or Wood Cutting Boards?
Wood cutting boards are actually better not only for
your knives but hygiene too ...
Myth 1: Wooden boards are so porous
that harmful organisms such as salmonella, e-coli
and listeria soak in, are hard to remove.
Myth 2: Plastic (because it is not
porous) can be more easily and safely cleaned.
Fact: Microbiologists at the University
of Wisconsin's Food Research Institute contaminated
wooden cutting boards and plastic ones with bacteria
that cause food poisoning.
What happened? Without washing or touching the boards,
the bacteria on the wooden board died off in three
minutes. On the plastic board the bacteria not only
remained but actually multiplied overnight. Most people
are surprised to hear that wood cutting boards may
be more resistant to bacterial build up than plastic.
